Craig Emerson supports unilateral free trade

I said a while back that Craig Emerson is on of the Labor governments' better ministers so I'm glad to see he is proposing tariff reductions. Its good to see the Liberals supporting him too.:

In a speech to the Lowy Institute yesterday, Dr Emerson said Australian trade policy had become intertwined with its international political agenda when it should be conducted purely on the basis of Australia's economic interests. Dr Emerson, as reported in The Australian, said he wanted to return the policy focus to that of former Labor prime minister Bob Hawke, by recommitting to unilateral liberalisation based on the central principle that trade liberalisation was central to productivity growth.
