Ron Paul crap

The American people are quite capable of choosing their own President without any input from me so you won't be seeing me putting up I Support Fred, Rudy, or Hillary buttons here.

I know some Australians enjoy watching American politics and I have seen various support buttons on local websites. What I don't understand is Australians who are supporting Congressman Ron Paul. The bloke is an isolationist. He believes in the US withdrawing its military commitments around the world. How will that benefit Australia? If the US withdraw from our region the Chinese would move in. Expect a nuclear arms race. Paul calls himself a libertarian which seems to be the basis of his support. Sorry, but I don't think being a believer in freedom means you should support your own destruction.

Bidinotto does a good job of taking Paul apart here.

  1. Whether it's neoconservative or neolibertarian, Ralph, you definitely deserve the 'neo' tag! Which, at this very moment, has pretty much come to mean 'supports the War on Terror' regardless of it's previous meanings.

  2. G'day,

Neo? Wasn't that the name of the leading character in the Matrix movies?

  3. You have a valid point regarding him, i understand Americans might be drawn towards his isolationism because they tire of foreign intervention. But the rest of the world supporting American isolationism is foolish. Now if they were supporting Russian or Cuban or isolationism, that's different, but that would be logical wouldn't it.
